Could the current limitation to the allowed extensions for attachments be reduced so .osg, .ive and all other common osg related data file types are allowed to be attached?

No, I think not. From my experience I see, that peoples are submitting different files with different formats. There are zips, 7z, tgz, tar.gz, jpg, jpeg, png, ... and many many more. Unfortunately you can not force people to use only specific extensions.

Current setup should allow any extension. However it still doesn't work well as I am able to see sometimes hidden files because of forbidden extension. Although this extension is not explicitely forbidden

Could me make an exception for things that are posted on a ML?
I am seeing submissions end up on this forum with attachments filtered.

Why do you actually want to disable certain attachments?

One of the other things, why I have allowed all attachments is, that otherwise I have to moderate every incoming message which has some non-allowed attachments. However the moderation script has some bugs and doesn't work well ;(

I think it is good to have all attachment available also through the forum, because one can the use forum as archive for them.

Maybe I could manage to write a script which allows users to specify if their attachments should be also posted on the forum if they have attached something to a mail on ML. However after the Siggraph Deadline (20.01.09) Wink

That's not what I want, but that is currently happening.

In this thread http://osgforum.tevs.eu/viewtopic.php?t=883 I tried to upload a .osg file, but wasn't allowed to.

If you would like to allow all attachments that would be even better.

Don't know what this means for security however.

ok, I have extra enabled .osg, .ive, .osga files to be allowed to be attached.

Very strange, attaching this files in a mail was unproblematic, however attaching them in a usual post was not allowed. Very strange...

I hope I would be able to find a way how to allow attaching of files with any extensions. This problem has to be investigated...
