Hi,
I keep getting this unusual error message when running the vpb Master.
I'm pretty sure there is no such file, and i couldn't google it because this file doesn't seem to exist at all.

This is my error:

HI Peter,

The source ReaderWriter is implemented with the vpb library (VirtualPlanetBuilder/src/vpb/DatabaseBuilderIO.cpp), which vpbmaster links against. This source ReaderWriter should automatically be registered with the osgDB::Registry during application initialization and be the one of the first  to be called by the Registry when a load is attempted.

Why this isn't working in your case I can't speculate as I've never read of others having this problem before.  What platform are you working on? Have you built the OSG and VPB yourself or got the binaries from a 3rd Party?

Robert.

Hi robertosfield!
Thanks for your reply,
i'm currently running on Debian 7.0.2 64Bit
I actually did not build the OSG and VPB myself, i got the sources from
/community/news/130-new-svn-repository-url
from this site.

Is there any way to manually register the source ReaderWriter?
Maybe using a startup script of some kind.

The OSG-Viewer itself is running, the problem seems to persist only when running vpbmaster
...

Thank you!

Cheers,
Peter

It should already be registering - there is a proxy object that should be doing the auto registration of the ReaderWriter.

The only I can think of is that some compiler settings or something about the compiler has disabled the static initialization that the proxy object uses.  Try adding some debug code into proxy initialization by locally expanding the REGISTER_OSGPLUGIN macro found at  the end of the VirtualPlanetBuilder/src/vpb/DatabaseBuilderIO.cpp file:

// now register with Registry to instantiate the above
// reader/writer.
REGISTER_OSGPLUGIN(vpb, VPBReaderWriter)

The macro is defined in OpenSceneGraph/include/osgDB.

Does the OpenSceneGraph itself work fine?  I.e. can your run "osgviewer cow.osgt" and have it load it's plugins all OK?  The plugins all use the same REGISTER_OSGPLUGIN macro to create the proxy object that does the auto registration.

Robert.

Hi robertosfield!

Thanks for the quick reply
OSGviewver and plugins are working all fine, i tried it with some test-data and everything worked out- the macro allready was in there, by default.

I'm still getting the same error.. File not found.

Any other advices?
...

Thank you!

Could you put a break point in or print statement the  VPBReaderWriter::readNode(..) method to see if it's being called.  This might reveal if the plugin is being called but not handling the file for a reason.  As a hunch perhaps the .source file isn't being read due a syntax error so that the Registry then goes and looks to an external plugin to load the file.

Could you post the .source file you are using and the vpbmaster command line syntax?

Robert.

Hi, robertosfield

I have been looking for the source file, i'm not sure but probably there's something missing.

First of all, i'm starting the service with
vpbmaster -d Elevation3.tif -o DGM.osgb

I have following source files:
build_master.source it's being created while vpb is running
dgm.osgdb.0.source it's being created while vpb is running
Then i have
Elevation3.prj
Elevation3.tfw
Elevation3.tif
whereas the .tif is the biggest file.

Am i missing something?
...

Thank you!

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter, can you provide the data, so we can have a look on what might
be wrong?
Or is the problem unrelated to the data used?

vpbmaster is running here like a charme (using osg 3.3.1 however)

Cheers
Sebastian

Hi!

I get the same error: vpb seems try to load osgdb_sourced.dll.
My configuration:
OS MS Windows 7.
Compiler: MSVC 2012 Express Edition.
I built OSG, GDAL, VPB from sources.
OSG: 3.2.0
GDAL: 1.11.2
VPB: master

I built only 32-bit versions.

When i launch: vpbmaster -d c:/terrain/gcanyon_height.png -t c:/terrain/gcanyon_color_4k2k.png -o c:/terrain/out.osgb

i get errors like:

machine= running task=tasks/build_subtile_L2_X0_Y0.task
scheduling task : tasks/build_subtile_L2_X1_Y0.task

No data loaded
Error: unable to load source file "build_master.source"
the file was found as "build_master.source"
now setting NotifyLevel to DEBUG, and re-running load:

VPBReaderWriter::readNode()

FindFileInPath() : trying C:\OpenSceneGraph-3.2.0\install\bin\osgPlugins-3.2.0\osgPlugins-3.2.0\osgdb_sourced.dll ...

And this is repeated until all sheduled tasks fail to load osgdb_sourced.dll

Now im looking into code based on comments i've read previously at this topic and also at vpb changelog on github.

However, still no success.

Thank you!

Elias

HI Elias,

The d suffix on the osgdb_sourced.dll suggests that the OSG is built
with debug, but you are invoking a release build of VPB when you are
calling vpbmaster and in turn osgdem.

Try building the OSG and VPB with a release build.

Robert.

Hi!

Im sorry for misleading you about that. Actually, release version of vpbmaster crushes at runtime at all. However, debug version runs ok (at least, without crushes i mean).
When vpbmaster invokes osgdem, it can call only a release version (literally, without "d" suffix).
So: vpbmasterd invokes osgdem (without "d" suffix), and vpbmaster invokes osgdem. I think it is hardcoded somehwere in a code.
So to avoid this, i built a debug versions, but without "d" suffix, and therefore debug version of vpbmaster and all other apps are without "d".

However, they are all debug versions, since release are crashes.

But now i would like to concentrate at aformentioned problem, instead of debug/release issues.

Thank you!

Cheers,
Elias

Hi!

Problem solved. The issue was the old version of OSG. Appropriate revision number must be taken from VPB's ChangeLog.

Thank you!

Elias
