Hello!
Excuse me for the perhaps dumb question, but could anybody points on an example of creating clouds, sky, light and other atmoshperic effects?

I found osgVisual, but the project seems to be outdated.

Can't find the proper solution.

Thank you!

Cheers,
Elias

Hi Elias,

check this website for SilverLining, it is commercial but affordable, it has also OSG integration samples. And it is great !

Or the free osgEphemeris for sun, star, atmosphere effects (no clouds as far as I remember).

Alternatively osghimmel ( https://code.google.com/p/osghimmel/ ). It implements both texture mapped skyboxes as well as shader based skies and clouds. This is also a free software package.

SilverLining is great, graphics-API agnostic, but it ain't free.

Hello!
I chose to follow the advice and try to use osgHimmel. However, i've got the problem: when i launch any osgHimmel-based app (examples or mine), i've got nothing on the screen except:

Atmopshere Precomputed (took 11.2606 s)

On the wiki i didn't find any info about that problem except one unanswered comment about that.

It seems that something is wrong with a shaders. Can anybody pointed why?

Thank you!

Cheers,
Elias

You might want to try a driver update first

The latest Windows7 driver for this chip is 353.30 - WHQL from June 22, 2015

There are also Windows 8/8.1 and Linux drivers on the nvidia web site.

Hi, something else coming to my mind.

If your laptop is equipped with an nVidia Optimus solution (Intel graphics is the main workhorse, the nVidia graphics is only activated based on preference settings) then go to your nVidia Control Panel (assuming you're on WIndows), Choose "Manage 3D settings". Now either explicitly enable nVidia High Performance Graphics for your compiled binary (by adding it to the list of programs and making a program specific choice for nVidia graphics) - or make a global setting to prefer nVidia Graphics over Intel. The latter option will certainly impact battery life.

As a second recommendation if you're on Optimus: Also update your Intel graphics drivers. The older these drivers are, the more OpenGL bugs are in them - I speak from experience. Wink

Christian, unfortunately the result is the same.
I did:
1. Updated my nvidia driver to the newest one.
2. Intel Update Utility says that my Intel Graphics driver is up-to-date.

BTW i bought this laptop about one year ago, while the last update of osgHimmel was about 2 years ago...so i pretty much sure that outdated opengl is not the case.

Also, i tried to compile osgEphemeris, just to test. However, one error stopped me:

osg::Drawable *dbl = geode->getDrawable(i);
osg::Drawable::UpdateCallback *updateCallback = dbl->getUpdateCallback();

Error 1 error C2440: 'initializing' : cannot convert from 'osg::Callback *' to 'osg::Drawable::UpdateCallback *' C:\osgEphemeris\src\osgEphemerisLib\SkyDome.cpp 71 1 osgEphemeris

Do you have any ideas?
My OSG version is 3.3.8.
Maybe some inconsistency between OSG and osgHimmel do exist?
Can i test my OpenGL capabilities to draw the shaders?

Cheers,
Elias

Updated:

Fixed error in osgEphemeris, trying to build an app and see what's what.

Updated:

osgEphemeris works fine. Simple app runs without errors.

Cheers,
Elias
